Under NFPA 10 and the Alberta Fire Code, commercial fire extinguishers in Calgary and Edmonton require monthly visual inspections by building staff, annual professional inspection and maintenance by a certified technician, internal inspection every 6 years (extinguisher emptied, components inspected, recharged), and hydrostatic pressure testing at the following intervals
- ABC dry chemical: 12-year hydrostatic test
- CO2 & water mist: 5-year hydrostatic test
- Wet chemical (K-class): 5-year hydrostatic test
Activate tracks all extinguisher testing dates across your Calgary and Edmonton buildings and sends automated renewal reminders. Annual professional inspection must be performed by a certified technician; building staff cannot certify extinguishers as compliant.
